Internal American Heroes: From Combat to Full Time Career
July 22nd, 2016
Joe Riley served 8 years in the U.S. Army before his honorable discharge in February of 2016.
He began his military career in El Paso, Texas with the 1st Armor Division at Fort Bliss. After 2 deployments overseas, Joe was transferred to Fort Campbell in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to participate with the 101st Airborne Division. It was there that he would be deployed for the third time and, his second deployment to Afghanistan. Joe received specialized training in both divisions, emphasizing a focus on leadership communication and air assault operations.
After his service to the military was complete, Joe focused on earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; a goal he was working towards prior to enlisting. When learning of HMS Mfg. Co. from a friend and researching their core values, Joe took it upon himself to apply for the Tooling Engineer Apprenticeship within the organization. He had developed enviable leadership skills and team working ability as an American soldier. HMS knew the value of those transferable skills, and awarded Joe immediate entry into the apprenticeship program.
With the strong support of his managers and colleagues, Joe is successfully working towards obtaining his degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Joe, we thank you for your internal dedication, willingness to learn and service to our country.
